“We are excited to be included in the Women’s Champions Classic,” head coach Kim Barnes Arico said in the program’s press release. “Our players always want to challenge themselves against the best, and this will be another opportunity for us to do that. We know the power of the block M, and we love showcasing our team and university on the national stage.”
This matchup will be a rematch of the Wolverines’ 2025 Round of 64 matchup. No. 6 seed Michigan defeated No. 11 seed Iowa State, 80-74, behind former guard Jordan Hobbs’ career-high 28 points.
Cyclones star center Audi Crooks also scored 28 amid a third-team All-American season. Crooks is currently averaging 25.5 points and 7.8 rebounds per game at a 64.7 field goal percentage clip as a junior. Iowa State began the year strong before dropping five consecutive conference games in January, resulting in a current projection as a 9-seed in the NCAA Tournament.
December’s matchup will mark the sixth contest between the Wolverines and the Cyclones, with Iowa State leading the series, 3-2, with Michigan winning the last two matchups.
