One of Auburn football’s top targets in the 2027 recruiting cycle has set a timeline for his commitment.
Auburn football is in a tight competition with several Power Four programs for the signature of five-star quarterback Will Mencl, the No. 4 quarterback in the 2027 recruiting class from Chandler, Arizona. After competing in the Under Armour NEXT camp in Phoenix, Mencl shared with Brandon Huffman of Rivals that he is close to announcing his commitment. Mencl will visit Auburn, Miami, Penn State, and Oregon over the next month and plans to pledge “mid to late April.”

Mencl mentioned that he has the best relationships with coaches from the aforementioned schools, including Auburn. He described Auburn as a “family atmosphere” during a February visit.
“It was a family feel,” Mencl said in an interview with Rivals. “I enjoyed my time there. I was in a meeting with the OC Joel Gordon for an hour and then we went to lunch and came back for another two hours and it felt like only 15 minutes had passed. He’s someone that is super easy to learn from. Coach (Alex) Golesh is a great person. Had really good conversations with him.”
Auburn rebuilt its quarterback room during the offseason, but it will have depth ahead of the 2027 season. Auburn will get Byrum Brown for one season, but has Tristan Ti’a, Locklan Hewitt, and Rhys Brush in its chamber. Alex Golesh is also in a great spot to land another top-five quarterback from the 2027 cycle in Israel Abrams. Should Mencl elect to commit elsewhere, Auburn football will still be in a great spot at quarterback ahead of the 2027 season.
