Texas A&M is one of six schools to reach the CFP and NCAA tournament

by

The Texas A&M Aggies have had a successful 2025-26 school year, beginning with an improbable 11-2 football season that earned the program its first College Football Playoff berth. After a disappointing first-round loss to Miami, all eyes turned to new men’s basketball head coach Bucky McMillan.

The Aggies were in dire straits upon his hiring, with only one returning player from a competitive 24-25 team led by a cast of seniors. McMillan was also brought on well after the transfer portal had opened, leaving him with a smaller pool of players to fill the roster.

Nobody had lofty expectations for the program, as history suggests it should be in for a grueling rebuild. But the Aggies defied the odds this season, boasting an impressive 21-11 record and finishing tied for sixth in the conference after going 11-7 in SEC play.

After being selected as the 10th seed in the upcoming NCAA tournament, Texas A&M joined an exclusive club of teams that have made the postseason in both major men’s sports in the 2025-26 school year, including just them, Alabama, Georgia, Miami, Ohio State, and Texas Tech.

The Aggies take on St. Mary’s in the opening round of March Madness on Thursday at 6:35 PM CST in Oklahoma City.
