Sells

Patrick Mahomes, QB, Chiefs

Mahomes had a bounce-back year in 2025, finishing as the fourth-highest scoring fantasy quarterback on a per game basis. That result came after a couple down seasons where the Chiefs’ franchise passer fell to the low-end QB1 range as the QB11 in 2024 and QB12 in 2023.

A big reason for the improvement was an increased willingness to run the ball, which helped him to career highs with 422 rushing yards and five touchdowns on the ground.

Unfortunately, a torn ACL brought his season to an early end after Week 15 and now raises questions about his availability for the start of the 2026 campaign. Even if Mahomes is able to suit up for the opener, we’ve seen QBs coming off ACL tears be far more hesitant to use their legs, leading to decreased rushing stats. Perhaps that’s why the team traded for Justin Fields to be his immediate backup and potential short-term replacement in the opening month.

Before we get too far down a doom-and-gloom outlook for Mahomes, let’s make one thing clear — he still has many good years ahead of him. However, his perceived fantasy value is likely to drop the closer we get to the season as people factor in his recovery timeline.

We also have to consider his environment changing in the coming years. Andy Reid, who turns 68 this week, won’t be coaching forever. Travis Kelce almost retired this offseason, so he might be entering his final campaign. And we also have uncertainty around Rashee Rice with his mounting off-field issues.

It seems blasphemous to suggest trading Mahomes, but his injury raises concerns about his 2026 projections and the ecosystem around him will look much different a year or two from now.

Other QB sells to consider

Christian McCaffrey, RB, 49ers

In general, moving on from older backs in dynasty before the bottom falls out on their production is a smart approach.

McCaffrey was outstanding this past season, quieting those who questioned his durability and finishing as the RB1 overall in fantasy with 2,126 scrimmage yards and 17 touchdowns.

But how much longer can we expect him to keep up this level of production?

The engine of the 49ers’ offense will turn 30 in June, which is a scary age for any running back, but especially one fresh off a 413-touch campaign.

Entering his 10th NFL season, McCaffrey is overdue for a production decline, according to Ryan Heath’s work on age curves.

All things considered, even if he stays healthy it will be nearly impossible for CMC to match last year’s numbers. With that potential decline looming, he’ll be an extremely dangerous first-round pick in redraft and for dynasty it’s time to get off the ride before you find yourself stuck on the tracks.

Garrett Wilson, WR, Jets

It seems strange to call Wilson a disappointment since being selected as the 10th overall pick in the 2022 NFL Draft, because he’s managed to overcome some of the worst quarterback play in the league.

Throughout all the Jets’ chaos year in and year out, Wilson still started his career with three-straight 1,000-yard campaigns and was well on his way to doing it again last season before knee issues caused him to end up on injured reserve.

However, much like is the case with his teammate Breece Hall, you can’t help but feel like the two young stars would be perennial top-12 players at their positions if they were on a more competent offense.

Geno Smith is a better passer than what we saw from him last year with the Raiders, when he had limited weapons, a porous offensive line and a dysfunctional scheme. The Jets definitely have more talent, but they also have a lot of pieces that need to get on the same page under new offensive coordinator Frank Reich.

While I still believe in Wilson’s talent and don’t want to give up on the immense potential of a player who’s only going to be 26 when the season arrives, this situation seems like more of the same for him.

That boils down to a fantasy WR2 who lacks an elite ceiling in his current setup causing him to be 10 spots lower in my rankings than he would be if he were attached to a quality quarterback in a proven offense.

Other WR sells to consider

  • Brian Thomas Jr., Jaguars

  • Courtland Sutton, Broncos

  • Michael Pittman Jr., Steelers

Sam LaPorta, TE, Lions

LaPorta’s 2025 campaign was stifled by a midseason back injury that sent him to injured reserve. In his absence, receivers like Jameson Williams and Isaac TeSlaa took on larger roles in the offense — something that will be hard to put back in the box moving forward.

That’s where my worry lies with LaPorta’s fantasy outlook. There’s no denying he’s a strong tight end and at 25 years old there’s plenty of career left for him to contribute in your lineup. However, I wonder what his ceiling will be while playing in an offense that features Jahmyr Gibbs and Amon-Ra St. Brown, as well as the aforementioned rising star Williams and the emerging playmaker TeSlaa.

With that level of target competition, I’d argue that LaPorta is much more likely to settle in as a mid-to-low-end fantasy TE1, rather than the elite option he appeared to be in his rookie season.

It’s also worth noting that LaPorta’s finish as the highest scoring player at his position in 2023 was a bit fraudulent. It was the only time the No. 1 fantasy tight end averaged less than 12 fantasy points per game since 2016, with LaPorta coming in at 11.6.

He hasn’t even come close to those numbers the last two years, averaging 9.0 fppg in 2024 and 10.5 fppg through the first 10 games of 2025 before getting hurt.

So, if you’re content having a mid-level TE1 in your fantasy lineup, then feel free to keep rolling with LaPorta. But if you’re in search of a difference-maker at the position, you should be packaging him up with another asset and trying to acquire someone higher up my rankings.

Other TE sells to consider

  • Oronde Gadsden II, Chargers
