ESPN insider Shams Charania may want to stay off social media for the next few hours.
During this Wednesday morning’s episode of “Get Up,” ESPN had Charania break the news that a landmark collective bargaining agreement is in place for the WNBA and its players’ union. As part of this deal, the WNBA’s salary cap will increase to $7 million and the supermax for contracts will start at $1.4 million.

While fans are pleased with the terms of the WNBA’s latest CBA, they’re not thrilled that Charania was the one who announced this news on ESPN.
Annie Costabile of Front Office Sports, Doug Feinberg of The Associated Press, Alexa Philippou of ESPN, and Jackie Powell of The IX Sports were anxiously waiting for updates on the WNBA’s negotiations with the players’ union. Although they provided valuable reporting throughout this holdout, it was Charania who got the major scoop.

“A group of reporters literally camped outside of the offices where CBA negotiations took place and this guy still got the details first,” one fan wrote on social media.

“Boiiiii I’d be hot if I was Alexa right now,” a second fan said. “Camped out for 8 days for labor negotiations only for a source to leak the details on air to an individual who wasn’t on the ground grinding for the scoops.”
“I actually get annoyed at Shams leaking WNBA info too considering he doesn’t cover the league year round…you don’t really see him stepping on Adam Schefter or Ian Rapoport’s toes,” another fan wrote.
“I’m sorry but the more and more I think about it, it’s truly annoying me,” a social media user said. “Media members were camped outside for days in the cold and Shams gets to report/break news about the details of the CBA. Man please.”
