Key remaining NFL free agents for the Bengals to sign

by

The Cincinnati Bengals kicked free agency off with a bang when they signed edge Boye Mafe and safety Bryan Cook. Just a few days later, Cincinnati added defensive tackle Jonathan Allen, giving the defense three badly needed additions after another tumultuous season on that side of the ball.

Despite adding a few free agents, there are still a few out there who would be beneficial for the Bengals.

Joey Bosa – Edge

This is a ‘why not’ scenario. Bosa is an older edge but still may have enough gas in the tank to produce some sacks. He previously played with Joe Burrow at Ohio State. Let’s see if the two Buckeyes can reunite, though some think Bosa will meet up with his brother in San Francisco.

D.J. Reader – DT:

Speak of the devil. This would be rather ironic. The Bengals had the option to extend Reader a couple of years back and opted not to. Only to bring Sheldon Rankins in, who dealt with injury all year long and provided almost nothing for the team. Despite age, I would make this reunion happen immediately, considering the Bengals’ lack of talent and depth on the defensive line.

Hassan Reddick – Edge:

It’s obvious at this point that the Bengals still have a glaring need at defensive end. They added Mafe to the roster, but they lost Trey Hendrickson and Joseph Ossai. Reddick would most certainly provide the efficiency that the team lacked last season.

Trevon Diggs – CB:

Whether or not you liked him at the end or not, Cam Taylor-Britt’s departure to Indianapolis didn’t help Cincinnati. They still need to add a bit more depth to the secondary. They still have DJ Turner and Josh Newton, alongside Marco Wilson and DJ Ivey. Diggs has shown himself to be a proven pass disruptor. He would immediately help the defensive back room.

Bobby Wagner – LB:

This would be the addition of another older guy, but he’d bring a ton of experience, leadership, and aggressiveness to the defense, which was badly missing all of those attributes the last two seasons.

Joe Flacco – QB:

Last, but not least, why would you not re-sign Flacco? As long as he doesn’t find a team that takes a chance on him as a starter, let the man back on the team to back up Burrow. Whether or not Flacco likes it or not, he’s a great backup. Plus, this will give him the chance to earn yet another ring to finish his career.
