The Oregon Ducks and USC Trojans will be battling often on the recruiting trail this offseason. The Ducks are currently trying to hold off their longtime rival from flipping one of the most important early commitments in Oregon’s class.
Four-star offensive tackle Drew Fielder committed to the Ducks on February 1, but after spending the past two weekends on campus with the Trojans, momentum seemed to be steering toward Los Angeles. However, that all changed when the Servite High School star shared a photo on his Instagram posing with former Oregon tackle Josh Conerly Jr., throwing up the “O” as well.
Conerly and Fielder appeared to be working out together, which might be a good sign that his commitment to the Ducks is still in good standing. Fielder’s proximity and family connections to USC have made rumors of a flip swirl, but his feelings about Dan Lanning and the ability to develop at Oregon have stood out. Working out with the starting right tackle for the Washington Commanders is a good way to drive home the NFL talent the Ducks are producing up front.

Fielder is the No. 81 overall player and No. 10 offensive tackle in the class, per 247 Sports. The 6-foot-6, 280-pound tackle is one of the jewels of Oregon’s class so far and likely won’t let his recruitment linger into his senior season in Anaheim. He’s planning an official visit to the Ducks on May 26, and there is an expectation that his recruitment will likely be settled after that, either staying with the Ducks or flipping to USC.
The Ducks already missed out on five-star safety Honor Fa’alave-Johnson earlier this month when he committed to the Trojans instead of the Ducks. Oregon is also hoping to win the services of four-star corner Danny Lang later this week in another battle with USC. Hopefully, Fielder can be a staple recruit in the Ducks’ class and a statement win on the recruiting trail over their conference foe.
Oregon currently has the No. 10 class in the nation in the 2027 cycle. The Ducks have six total commits, two of which are tackles: Fielder and three-star Avery Michael, who has been part of the recruiting process to keep Fielder with the Ducks.
