Biopic on UFC legend Georges St-Pierre in the works

by

George St-Pierre’s life and legendary UFC career will be told in the form of a biopic.

On Tuesday, Variety announced that Quebec filmmaker Thomas Soto will direct the movie that highlights St-Pierre’s journey to becoming a UFC champion and one of the sport’s biggest stars. Filmmakers say they want to “reveal Georges, the man,” who came from humble beginnings in Saint-Isidore, Quebec.

“We have been considering telling my story for a moment now, and when we found this team it was clear to us that we wanted this to be told in a new, creative way,” St-Pierre said in a statement to Variety.

St-Pierre (26-2 MMA, 20-2 UFC), a former UFC welterweight and middleweight champion, was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2020. He is widely considered one of the greatest fighters of all time and was ranked No. 1 in MMA Junkie’s 30 greatest UFC fighters of all time in 2023. St-Pierre has just two losses on his MMA record to Matt Hughes and Matt Serra, both which he later avenged.

St-Pierre holds the record for most UFC welterweight title defenses at nine, which he reached before opting to vacate the belt in November 2013. He returned four years later to challenge Michael Bisping for the middleweight title at UFC 217 and submitted him to join a select few two-division champions in UFC history.

St-Pierre officially retired in 2019.
