NC State women’s basketball‘s Zam Jones announced Wednesday, March 25, on social media that she has decided to enter the transfer portal after two seasons in Raleigh with coach Wes Moore.
The North Pitt High School graduate from Greenville had many memorable moments with the Wolfpack, most recently a 30-point, 5-steal performance in an NCAA Tournament first-round win over Tennessee, 76-61.

“I am truly thankful and grateful for my time spent at NC State. It has helped shape me both on and off the court in ways I will always cherish,” Jones wrote in a social media post. “… After a lot of time, thought, and reflection, I have decided to enter the transfer portal. NC State will always hold a special place in my heart, and I will forever be grateful for the memories, relationships and experience I’ve gained here.”
YOUNG ZAM: At 14, she’s averaging 23 and has a UNC basketball offer. Meet freshman Zamareya Jones.
The transfer portal opens April 7 — two days after the women’s national championship game — and closes April 21.
Mallory Collier, a 6-foot-3 center who spent the last three seasons with the Wolfpack out of her Tennessee high school, announced her intention to enter the portal one day before Jones.

Jones’ departure comes after a leap in production her sophomore season as she became NC State’s third-leading scorer behind Khamil Pierre and Zoe Brooks, averaging 14.9 points, 3.8 assists, 3.3 rebounds and 1.2 steals while shooting 42.1%. As a freshman, Jones came off the bench for 7.1 points and 1.5 assists per game.
Jones’ “I’m built for this. I’m a dog,” halftime comments to Holly Rowe as NC State led LSU 40-36 at halftime in last year’s Sweet 16 went viral, and her talk matched her game with 11 first-half points.
NC State went 21-11 this season, finishing fourth in the ACC and made an eighth straight NCAA Tournament appearance after reaching the Final Four in 2024.
