4-star Oregon target sets impending commitment date

by

The Oregon Ducks will have an opportunity to add to their 2027 recruiting class in a few short days as another target gets set to come off the board. Four-star safety Myles Baker from Sierra Canyon in Chatsworth, California, will announce his commitment live on March 29 on the Rivals.com YouTube channel.

The 6-foot-1 safety will choose between a group of finalists that includes the Ducks, as well as Alabama, Cal, LSU and Stanford. He will announce his decision on Sunday at 10 a.m. PT.

Baker’s decision feels like it could go either way, but he does seem happy with the Ducks, who have been recruiting him for a while now. Even with the change in defensive coordinator to Chris Hampton, the Ducks have remained very involved in Baker’s commitment.

“I’ve been to Oregon multiple times and it’s always a great time there,” Baker told Rivals. “Coach Lanning came down to visit with me and my family back in January and I really like him and the rest of the staff. I love the culture of the program, the facilities and they’re a winning program and I don’t see that changing any time soon.”

Baker also mentioned to Rivals that former Oregon defensive coordinator Tosh Lupoi started recruiting him while he was with the Ducks, and that pursuit carried over when he became the next head coach at Cal.

The Sierra Canyon star’s recruitment has picked up in recent months. He is currently the No. 242 overall prospect and the No. 26-ranked safety, according to Rivals. Baker recorded 34 tackles and 10 for a loss in his junior season, while adding five pass deflections, two interceptions and one sack.

Baker was originally set to commit on July 10, his mother’s birthday, but by moving up his decision a few months, it seems likely that he’s ready to lock in and shut his recruitment down. Although he has more visits scheduled, he plans to cancel those visits and only take a trip to the school that he chooses on Sunday. That could be the Ducks, but it seems like LSU might have a slight lean right now. We’ll find out if Lanning can steal another player from California for his 2027 class.
