Cayden Boozer reveals Duke’s secret weapon against UConn

by

The Duke Blue Devils face their toughest NCAA Tournament matchup yet this Sunday night, facing off against the UConn Huskies.

Having defeated St. John’s by five points in the Sweet 16, the Blue Devils relied on contributions from everyone, including Caleb Foster, who returned from injury with an inspiring 11-point performance off the bench.

However, ahead of Duke’s Elite Eight clash versus UConn, Cayden Boozer revealed another one of the Blue Devils’ underrated weapons.

“I’ll just say for Nik (Khamenia), I think his best trait is how much of a competitor he is. Every night he steps on the floor, he’s going to do whatever it takes to win. He’s going to defend. He’s going to rebound. He’s going to throw his body at someone. He’ll bang his head, whatever he has to do to help us win.”

Although he’s only started five games for the Blue Devils this season, Khamenia has displayed efficient two-way play when on the floor.

In 16 minutes against St. John’s, the five-star freshman recruit scored four points, grabbed one rebound and tallied one steal.

With only five made three-pointers in the Sweet 16, Duke and head coach Jon Scheyer could rely on Khamenia’s efficiency (33%) from beyond the arc to help them prevail against the Huskies.
