William Byron discusses top-5 finish at Martinsville in March 2026

William Byron may not have had the car to beat; however, the No. 24 team found a way to maximize his result. On Sunday, Byron and the No. 24 team for Hendrick Motorsports finished in fifth place. It was a tough grind for Byron, who lost track position after a poor pit stop by the No. 24 crew.

Following the race, Byron talked about his top-5 finish at Martinsville. While he wishes the No. 24 car was stronger, it was a good overall result for Hendrick Motorsports, which got Chase Elliott in victory lane.

“Yeah, it was good,” Byron said. “Just missing a little bit in the one part of the corner. Just trying to sort of get the entry a little bit better. Yeah, I thought we were good all day. We needed some track position. We had one hiccup there on pit road. Felt like our Chevy was good. Was really proud of that last run. We kind of came from ninth to fifth. Got to keep inching up on it. Congrats to [Chase Elliott], everybody at Hendrick Motorsports, [Alan Gustafson]. They did a great job today. They’re always fast here. Always trying to compare notes and chase them, especially on practice days. Keep working on it and get better for the fall.”

Byron wanted more from his No. 24 car, but entering the NASCAR off weekend with a fifth-place finish at Martinsville is good for everyone. The driver of the No. 24 car will now prepare for Bristol Motor Speedway in two weeks, hoping that he can find victory lane for the first time in 2026.
