Roster turnover is common in college athletics these days and yesterday the Syracuse Orange women’s basketball team learned that two more players plan to enter the transfer portal.
Both Sophie Burrows and Maddie Potts declared their intention to enter the transfer portal. Burrows averaged 11 points and 5.8 rebounds per game for the Orange this season. She started 61 of 62 games over the last two seasons, and although her shooting from deep dropped this year, she was 2nd on the team in rebounds, assists, steals and blocks. Burrows was also named this year’s Kay Yow ACC Scholar Athlete of the Year.
Potts appeared in 47 games over two seasons in Syracuse, with 3 starts. She averaged 3.5 points and 1.4 rebounds per game.
It will be interesting to see if either player reunites with former Syracuse assistant Kristen Sharkey in Buffalo. Sharkey was instrumental in recruiting in Australia so that’s a potential destination to watch.

Syracuse will now have to replace at least three starters from this year’s squad, so we’ll see who will be added when the transfer portal opens next week.
