In 1978, after being fired from his job with the New England Whalers of the World Hockey Association, Bill Rasmussen devised a plan for a cable television network dedicated entirely to sports.
Rasmussen founded and launched ESPN on Sept. 7, 1979. Directed by Greg DeHart and produced by Tenero Productions, “Sports Heaven: The Birth of ESPN” tells the improbable story of the network that would transform sports media. The documentary features interviews with Rasmussen, his son Scott Rasmussen, Chris Berman, Bob Ley, Jimmy Pitaro and other figures who helped shape and build the network.
