The Gamecocks ran away from Connecticut in the second half, and it’ll start an offseason of soul searching for Geno Auriemma and company.
How do they get back to their full national dominance? It’s certainly harder in the modern era of women’s college hoops, but it shouldn’t be impossible. After all, this is UConn.
They’ll lose Azzi Fudd to the WNBA this offseason, but they’ll have Sarah Strong next season, a great place to start.
It may benefit UConn from getting an even taller, lankier player to use in the frontcourt, too, and one just entered the transfer portal.
NC State’s Tilda Trygger is available. She’s 6-foot-6 from Sweden with multiple years of eligibility left.

It just emerged Monday that Trygger is entering the portal, so there have been no real links yet.
But the reality is that a player from a strong NC State program deciding to transfer likely means ending up at a very big-time school.
Auriemma could have his eyes on any number of frontcourt additions to help Strong, and clearly he knows the backcourt will need reinforcements, too.
But if he wants to get extra tall, Trygger would be a possibility.
