FSU Seminoles are among the ‘top schools’ for blue-chip linebacker

The Florida State Seminoles are looking to add some more linebackers to their 2027 recruiting class, and Ernie Sims is working hard on several key targets. They recently hosted four-star prospect Ellis McGaskin on a visit, and they made a move in his recruitment.

It was his first time in Tallahassee in over a year, and he told Warchant’s Matt LaSerre that they are now one of the “top schools” in his recruitment. He explained that his relationship with Sims is a major reason why.

“It was amazing, me and him’s relationship is like father and son, so that’s my guy,” McGaskin said. “The way he coaches the person, the type of person here, it’s someone that you love to be around.”

McGaskin is ranked as the No. 282 overall player and No. 23 linebacker in the Rivals industry ranking. The Mobile native is also the No. 15 player from Alabama.

They are battling several big schools for McGaskin, who was previously committed to the Notre Dame Fighting Irish before reopening his recruitment back in January. He is also considering the Florida Gators, LSU Tigers, and Texas A&M Aggies, who all have official visits scheduled with him.

He is coming off an excellent junior season at Williamson High School, where he played linebacker and a little running back. He finished the season with 160 tackles, 26.0 tackles for loss, 4.0 sacks, and an interception. He also carried the ball 26 times for 258 yards and four touchdowns.
