Looking to rebuild after back-to-back Elite Eight runs, TCU women’s basketball made its first transfer portal splash of the offseason, gaining a commitment from Stanford freshman forward Lara Somfai. The 6-foot-3 freshman from Adelaide, South Australia, Australia averaged 10.8 points and 9.1 rebounds per game while 40.9% from the floor during her first season with the Cardinal. Somfai, who started all 32 games for Stanford during the 2025-26 season, fills a frontcourt vacancy left by graduating starter and All-Big 12 player Marta Suarez.
Somfai projects as a plug-and-play starter who can play alongside sophomore center Clara Silva, who averaged 9.0 points and 7.4 rebounds in her first season with the Horned Frogs. Somfai helped lead the Cardinal to a 21-14 record during the 2025-26 campaign. Born in Hungary, Somfai moved to Australia at the age of 2 and attended IMG Academy in Florida. At Stanford, she was an ACC All-Freshman Team selection and a four-time ACC Rookie of the Week. She was named the USBWA National Freshman of the Week in late November.

Out of high school, Somfai was a five-star prospect, a McDonald’s All-American and a Jordan Brand Classic All-American. A member of the Nike Hoop Summit World Team roster in 2025, Somfai has represented Australia in four international tournaments around the globe. She led Australia to a fifth-place finish at the FIBA U17 World Cup in 2024, averaging a team-best 14.4 points and 5.3 rebounds in seven games. She averaged 14.8 points and 11.5 rebounds at the 2023 FIBA U17 Women’s Oceania Championship and 16.0 points and 5.0 rebounds in two games at the 2023 U16 Women’s Asian Championship.
