The college basketball transfer portal is only a few days old, but already there has been a lot of movement, as expected. With a large number of players in the transfer portal, there’s going to be a lot of change once again.
For the North Carolina Tar Heels, they are off to a slower start, but that’s due to them making a coaching change this past week. With Michael Malone in charge, the Tar Heels are hoping to improve their roster. They have some holes to fill as there are several players from last year’s team who are already in the portal.

And already, the Tar Heels are reaching out to potential targets.
One of those targets is Santa Clara guard Christian Hammond, who entered the portal this week. The guard helped lead Santa Clara to the NCAA Tournament this past season as he averaged 15.6. points, 3 rebounds, and 2.5 assists per game.
As noted above, he’s drawing significant interest from programs like Cincinnati, Xavier, Ole Miss, NC State and USC.
With North Carolina needing more than one guard, they will likely be pursuing more than one guard in this recruiting cycle. They will need to fill a few holes on that roster and getting a scoring guard is one of the top priorities.
