Sabally’s new deal was announced three days after her “thank you Phoenix” post on Instagram to confirm she will not return, after her lone season with the Mercury in 2025.

The 6-foot-4 Sabally was the Mercury’s leading scorer, averaging 16.3 points, 5.9 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 1.3 steals through 39 games. She was part of the Phoenix’s Big 3, including Alyssa Thomas and Kahleah Copper. They led Phoenix to the WNBA Finals against the defending champion Las Vegas Aces. Sabally, 27, averaged 21.7 points in the finals. She suffered a concussion during Game 3 and missed Game 4. The Aces swept the Mercury for the title.

Sabally was acquired by the Mercury from the Dallas Wings in a blockbuster four-team trade, which involved the Indiana Fever and Connecticut Sun on Feb. 2, 2025. The Mercury sent their former starters Natasha Cloud and Rebecca Allen to Connecticut to acquire Thomas. In addition, former Mercury forward Sophie Cunningham was dealt to Indiana.

Now, Sabally will play alongside New York’s two-time MVP Breana Stewart, and fellow All-Stars Jonquel Jones and Sabrina Ionescu.
