When he suits up Sunday against Minnesota, Jeremiah Fears will make franchise history as the first rookie in Pelicans history to play in all 82 games, according to Rod Walker of NOLA.

The No. 7 overall pick from last year’s draft has built a reputation for staying healthy and noted that he hasn’t missed a game since breaking his thumb during his freshman year of high school.

“Being able to play all 82 games is big time,” Fears said. “Not everybody gets the opportunity to play all 82 games. I was fortunate enough to get the opportunity. I feel like I’ve made the most of the minutes I get when I go out there.”

Fears has emerged as a key positive in an otherwise difficult season for New Orleans. He’s putting up 14 points, 3.6 rebounds, and 3.4 assists per game in 25.6 minutes, and recently set a franchise rookie record with a 40-point performance in a win over Utah.

With his role growing, he’s been even more productive lately, averaging 28.8 points over his last five outings.

Fears said his commitment to recovery has played a major role in his ability to stay available throughout the season.

“That helps in being able to play all 82 games,” he said. “Focus on your recovery and just continue to stay focused. I’m dedicated to the recovery and the work on and off the court. The hot and the cold tub have been huge for me. I just rely on those things to help me get my body for each and every day.”
