One of the best available point guards in the transfer portal may soon be joining the Kentucky Wildcats. Ahead of his scheduled visit to Lexington on Monday, Kentucky is currently considered the leader for BYU transfer guard Rob Wright III, according to Jeff Goodman of The Field of 68. It will be his first visit since entering the portal.

Wright, who spent the 2025-26 season with the Cougars after beginning his college career at Baylor, is one of the top guards available. He is ranked as high as No. 6 overall and No. 1 point guard in On3’s 2026 transfer portal rankings. The 6-foot-1, 183-pound guard has two years of eligibility remaining.
During his sole season at BYU, Wright started all 35 games and averaged 18.1 points, 4.6 assists, and 3.5 rebounds per game, playing 34.8 minutes per contest. He shot 46.7% from the field, 41% from three-point range, and 82% from the free-throw line, reached 20 or more points 11 times, and produced two 30-point performances, including a 39-point game. His play earned him All-Big 12 Third-Team honors, and he finished as the team’s second-leading scorer.
Wright showed considerable growth from his freshman season at Baylor, where he averaged 11.5 points, 4.2 assists, and 2.1 rebounds in 31 games, making 25 starts. He played 29.4 minutes per game and shot 41% from the field and 35% from beyond the arc, resulting in Big 12 All-Freshman Team recognition. His high school profile was equally impressive, as he was ranked No. 28 overall and No. 2 point guard in the 2024 class.
The Wildcats push for Wright comes amid a roster overhaul, with seven players departing via the transfer portal. Kentucky is coming off a 22-14 season, including a 10-8 SEC record and a second-round NCAA Tournament exit.
