UNC guard makes key decision on college basketball future

Now in its second week of existence, the college basketball transfer portal is in full effect. UNC just landed its first portal commitment on Monday, from Virginia Tech freshman Neoklis Avdalas.

North Carolina will also have a few of its 2025-26 starters gone via the portal, such as starting point guard Derek Dixon, who committed to Arizona on Monday.

The Tar Heels also will say goodbye to Luka Bogavac. After previously re-affirming his commitment to UNC for this fall, Bogavac later entered the portal, committing to Oklahoma State on Monday.

Bogavac, who previously played professionally in Europe, brought a needed scoring punch to North Carolina. Despite flip-flopping between the Tar Heels’ bench and starting lineup, fans could expect 10 points on any given night from the European sharpshooter.

Bogavac scored a career-high 20 points during UNC’s 67-63 win over Clemson on Senior Night, but struggled in postseason play, failing to hit double-digits in three losses. The best stretch in Bogavac’s North Carolina career came early in non-conference play, when he hit double-digits in eight straight games, starting with a 19-point outing against Radford and ending with a 15-point game vs. USC Upstate.
