This Notre Dame basketball star’s story continues to be inspiring and the next chapter will officially take place in the WNBA.
Cassandre Prosper’s rise continued on Monday evening when she was drafted by the Washington Mystics with the No. 19 overall draft pick in the 2026 WNBA Draft. She is now the 24th player in Notre Dame history to have been drafted into the WNBA and the third Irish player drafted by the Washington Mystics.

Her selection came after a breakout season where she started all 36 games and earned ACC Most Improved Players honors along with a spot on the All-ACC Second Team.
Prosper averaged 13.6-points, 6.5-rebounds, 1.6-steals and 1.1-blocks per game this past season, all of which were career highs. She also shot 49.2% from the field, scoring in double-figures 27 times and a total of six double-doubles. The Irish made it all the way to the Elite Eight until they eventually lost out to the UConn Huskies, who featured the No. 1 overall pick from the WNBA draft, Azzi Fudd. Prosper declared for the draft shortly after the conclusion of the season. Also notable was the No. 2 overall pick, former Notre Dame guard Olivia Miles was taken by the Minnesota Lynx.
Cassandre will find a familiar face in the Washington Mystics locker room. She will join former Irish teammate Sonia Citron at Washington. Citron was drafted No. 3 overall last season by the Mystics and produced one of the best years of any rookie from the draft last year.
Notre Dame head coach Niele Ivey continues the momentum of turning the Fighting Irish back into the elite women’s basketball program they once were. They welcome one of the top recruiting classes in the country, full of individuals who one day also hope to get their names called during the WNBA Draft like Cassandre Prosper did.
