How MLS is changing to compete with world football’s elite

Major League Soccer is preparing for one of the most ambitious transformations in its recent history. The goal is to position the league as a global benchmark capable of competing with Europe’s biggest powers.

One of the pillars of this change is the transition to a fall-spring calendar starting in 2027. Camilo Durana, MLS executive vice president, said in a meeting with the media that this decision aims to align MLS with FIFA transfer windows and create better opportunities for its competition.

According to Durana, “the change will help avoid extreme weather conditions in key cities during the summer months.”
