Notre Dame received a decommitment from 2027 safety Khalil Terry on Monday. They have a chance to make up for that loss quickly.
Notre Dame football received some unfortunate news on Monday when it was announced that 2027 Tustin (Calif.) High School four-star safety Khalil Terry has decommitted from the Fighting Irish. The California native originally committed to head coach Marcus Freeman and the Irish staff back in November of last year. It is important to point out that Terry committed to former defensive backs coach Mike Mickens at the time.

This potential move was something that the Notre Dame staff had known about for a while behind the scenes, but they did their best to keep Terry in the class. Originally committed to the Michigan State Spartans, the talented defensive back now has a third chance at the recruiting process. Terry is not short of impressive options, and odds are he will land in a solid spot.
While it is a loss for Notre Dame, they are going to be just fine when it comes to safety recruiting. The team just hosted 2027 Hollywood (Fla.) Chaminade-Madonna standout John Gay for a visit this past weekend, and they are in a good spot. The Irish are also in a great place with four-star standouts Gavin Williams and Zayden Gamble. If the team can land two of that list, then they will be in a great spot.

This is a situation that is unfortunate that it didn’t work out, but it isn’t going to derail either side in the long-term. Notre Dame is in a great spot to find a couple of replacements swiftly.
Khalil Terry’s recruiting background
Terry is considered to be a four-star player by each of the major recruiting platforms. On the 247 Sports Composite ranking, the California native is currently pegged as the No. 256 overall player, the No. 25 safety, and the No. 21 player from the state of California for the 2027 recruiting class.

The offer list is even more impressive for Terry, who has been pursued by some of the top programs in college football. His top offers currently include the Fighting Irish, Ohio State, Georgia, Alabama, Oregon, Oklahoma, LSU, Tennessee, Penn State, USC, Auburn, Nebraska, Missouri, Louisville, Georgia Tech, Arizona State, Michigan State, Texas Tech, UNC, Arkansas, Utah, Washington, Maryland, Arizona, Cal, Kansas, Oregon State, UCLA, and Syracuse, among others.
As a junior, Terry has been putting together an outstanding season for Tustin. In 11 games played, the 6-0, 185-pound defensive back has recorded 62 total tackles, four interceptions, and 16 pass breakups. Terry has also managed to collect four tackles for loss, a sack, and a forced fumble.
