Updated SEC softball standings: There’s a new No. 1

The SEC has to six of the top nine softball teams in the NFCA coaches poll including the country’s No. 1 team, the Oklahoma Sooners. The SEC is the most challenging and deepest softball conference in the nation.

The Sooners remained No. 1 in the poll, but are now longer in sole possession of first-place in the SEC softball standings. Oklahoma dropped a game to No. 9 Arkansas and No. 3 Alabama now has the same conference record as Oklahoma at 15-3.

The No. 15 Georgia Bulldogs lost two games to one in a home series against the No. 7 Texas Longhorns. Texas took the series with a 6-3 win in extra innings on Monday.

No. 5 Florida and No. 8 Tennessee are the other SEC teams that join Oklahoma, Texas, Arkansas and Alabama in the top 10. No. 11 Texas A&M, No. 15 Georgia, No. 17 Mississippi State and No. 20 LSU are also ranked in the top-25. The SEC has 10 teams in the top-25.

This weekend, No. 15 Georgia will play No. 1 Oklahoma, No. 11 Texas A&M will play South Carolina, No. 20 LSU will play No. 17 Mississippi State, No. 3 Alabama plays No. 8 Tennessee in the SEC’s most important conference matchups for the standings. The SEC Tournament will be from May 5-9 in Lexington, Kentucky.

  4. Arkansas Razorbacks (36-8, 11-7)

  5. Georgia Bulldogs (33-13, 10-8)

  6. Missouri Tigers (24-24, 7-11)

  7. South Carolina Gamecocks (26-21, 5-13)

  8. Kentucky Wildcats (25-25, 1-20)
