Georgia Tech Lands 2027 Verbal From In-State Standout Tessa Steger
NEW COMMIT: Georgia Tech has scored a new verbal commitment for the 2027-28 season and beyond from in-state standout Tessa Steger of Bogart, Ga. Steger is a Futures qualifier who excels in distance freestyle and IM.
She will join Aibhlinn King in Atlanta as a member of the Yellow Jackets’ Class of 2031.
Regarding her commitment, she said:
“I am so honored and excited to announce my verbal commitment to continue my academic and swimming career at Georgia Tech! I want to thank my family, friends, and coaches Harv, Adam, Scott and Jonathan for all the support they’ve given me over the years. I’d also like to thank all of my teammates from ABSC for helping me throughout this journey. A special thank you to coaches Mel, Iago, and Miles for giving me the opportunity to be a part of their program. All glory to God, and GO JACKETS!!!”
Steger does her club swimming with Athens Bulldog Swim Club and won the mile at the Georgia Senior State Championship in December where she also took third in the 400 IM and fourth in the 500 free. Last summer, she raced to seventh place in the 400m IM at Ocala Futures.
Her best times include:
- 500 free — 4:58.86
- 1650 free — 17:03.50
- 200 back — 2:01.93
- 200 fly — 2:04.09
- 400 IM — 4:21.42
Currently a junior at North Oconee High School, Steger won the 200 IM and placed fourth in the 500 free at the 2026 Georgia 4A State Championships. She finished fourth and third, respectively, in those events during her sophomore season in 2025.
Steger’s best time in the mile would’ve ranked first on Georgia Tech’s lineup last year. Her best times in the 200 fly and 400 IM would’ve ranked third, whiule she also would’ve ranked fifth on the roster in the 200 back and 500 free.
The Yellow Jackets placed 13th at the 2026 Atlantic Coast Conference Championships.
