He will now make $11.5 million for the 2027 and 2028 seasons ($5.75 million per season), The Athletic’s Will Sammon reports. He will also receive $2 million in incentives, per Jon Heyman.

Torrens, who turned 30 on Saturday, has been a solid backup for New York over the past three seasons since they acquired him from the Yankees in exchange for cash considerations in May of 2024.

This season, Torrens is hitting .200 with two doubles and four RBI over 30 at-bats across 13 games. Defensively, he’s caught four runners stealing and has allowed three stolen bases.

Over three years and 152 games with the Mets, he owns a .225 batting average with eight home runs, 24 doubles, and one triple with 48 RBI. Torrens was also named a Gold Glove finalist in 2025, ranking in the 100th percentile for caught stealing above average, 97th percentile in pop time, and 82nd percentile in framing.

The backstop originally signed with the Yankees as an international free agent and later made his MLB debut with the San Diego Padres in 2017. He played there until 2020 before getting traded to Seattle, where he played through the 2022 season. Torrens split time in 2023 with the Cubs and then rejoined the Mariners for five games. For his career, Torrens is a .226 hitter with 27 homers and 127 RBI.
