First impressions? Diego Pavia makes NFL debut, sort of, at Ravens rookie minicamp

OWINGS MILLS, MD — Diego Pavia has taken his first professional steps toward potentially being an NFL quarterback.

The former Vanderbilt star and 2025 Heisman Trophy finalist participated in the Baltimore Ravens‘ rookie minicamp Saturday, May 2, working out under cloudy skies on a cool day with fellow incoming players.

Wearing a black jersey with No. 17, the 5-foot-10, 203-pounder, who recently signed a three-year deal with the team as an undrafted free agent, spent the portion of practice open to media members basically getting acclimated to the playbook and his new teammates.

Wearing a helmet but no pads, Pavia split most of the reps with fellow UDFA Joe Fagnano − predictably going through a mix of run, pass and play-action plays, though Pavia didn’t actually throw the ball downfield as his receivers learned their routes. He did uncork some passes during individual drills.

Rookie head coach Jesse Minter ran practice, while general manager Eric DeCosta and former Ravens GM Ozzie Newsome, who still holds an executive vice president title under DeCosta, his protégé, observed from various vantage points from the team’s suburban training facility.

Pavia is not expected to speak with reporters Saturday, however Minter will.
