Ohio State head football coach Ryan Day’s son, RJ, is a talented high school quarterback in Columbus at St. Francis de Sales.

He’ll be a senior in the fall, and RJ has now chosen where he’ll play college football. And a spoiler: It won’t be for the Buckeyes.
RJ committed Sunday to play for the Northwestern Wildcats, a Big Ten rival of Ohio State.
On3 Sports reported the news and noted that RJ picked Northwestern over another Big Ten school, Purdue, as well as South Florida, where OSU’s Brian Hartline just took over as head coach.
RJ is 6-feet tall and a right-handed thrower, and it’s worth noting that he never had an Ohio State offer. He wasn’t quite highly regarded enough to earn any powerhouse program scholarship opportunities.

He has been prolific in high school, though. That included a game in the playoffs this past fall in which he threw for a school-record 482 yards.
One piece of good news here for the Day family: They won’t have to change colors from RJ’s high school purple, which aligns with his new college.
RJ’s dad is at least a few years away from having to consider what it might look like to coach against his son as an opposing quarterback, but that has now at least entered the realm of possibility.
First, RJ has another high school season to play, and then he’ll head to his own spot in the Big Ten to try to make a name for himself.
