Draymond Green holds a player option for next season, giving the veteran forward flexibility regarding his future with the Golden State Warriors.
Despite that option, Warriors general manager Mike Dunleavy Jr. made it clear the organization hopes Green finishes his career in Golden State.
“I think we have had discussions where we want him to finish his career (as) a Warrior,” Dunleavy said. “He kind of feels the same way. I would expect him to be back, but it’s his call on that.”
Head coach Steve Kerr shared a similar view while emphasizing that the final decision belongs to Green.
“The number one thing is, it’s up to him,” Kerr said. “He has the player option, so he has to go through that with his agent, how that plays out.”
Kerr also praised the relationship Green and Stephen Curry have built with the franchise over the years.
“I am committed to coaching him, coaching Steph, obviously, for as long as they’re here,” Kerr said. “I look at them as collaborators, and what we’ve built is pretty special.”
Green is reportedly expected to decline his current $27.7 million player option, though not necessarily because he plans to leave the Warriors.
Instead, the veteran forward could pursue a new multi-year contract with Golden State that provides more long-term guaranteed money.
