Kansas Football Lands Commitment from Talented 2027 Four-Star TE Mason Oglesby

The Kansas football coaching staff continues their hot streak on the recruiting trail this week with the addition of talented tight end Mason Oglesby out of New Palestine, Indiana.

Oglesby (6-foot-3, 215 pounds) is a four-star prospect ranked as the No. 9 player in Indiana and No. 12 player at his position, according to On3.com. He’s also rated as the No. 283 player overall in On3’s 2027 player recruiting rankings – easily the highest rated prospect thus far of KU’s 2027 class, which now ranks third in the Big 12 Conference and No. 40 overall.

Oglesby chose KU over home-state Indiana, national powerhouse Ohio State, and Bill Belichick’s North Carolia Tar Heels. He also held offers from Michigan, Texas Tech, USC, Miami (FL), and several other high-major programs – making him one of the most sought-after tight ends in the country.

“At the end of the day I felt like I needed to choose what’s best for me,” Oglesby said. “I feel like being in an offense that features me the best it can, being around the guys you’re comfortable with and the opportunity to compete early set them apart. I know coming to a school like that I can contribute to success early.”

As a junior last season at New Palestine High School, Oglesby racked up 34 catches for 629 yards and six touchdowns. He also played defensive end and outside linebacker, helping lead the Dragons to the Indiana Class 5A state championship.

His commitment comes on the heels of KU landing three-star safety Braiden Graves earlier this week and three-star quarterback Chance Thomas on May 11. Oglesby, who visited Lawrence on May 1 and was recruited by Kansas Associate Head Coach Andy Kotelnicki, brings the 2027 KU class to a total of six commitments.

On3’s player comparison for Oglesby is NFL tight end Jonnu Smith, who was a third round draft pick in the 2017 NFL Draft. The comparison reads:

“Smith has had an eight-year NFL career despite not being one of the league’s bigger tight ends. But his skill set is varied. He can line up anywhere in a formation and block or get touches from those places which see Oglesby as having a very similar future as far as his usage.”

With Oglesby’s talent, he should have the opportunity to get some early playing time during the 2027 season. The challenge now for the KU coaching staff will be to fend off other staffs from trying to poach Oglesby before the early signing period in December.
