Texas Longhorns head coach Steve Sarkisian announced a potentially major roster decision while speaking at the Touchdown Club of Houston on Thursday that no one noticed. Well, probably because Sark took an unwarranted shot at the Texas Tech Red Raiders’ Big 12 schedule.

Sarkisian announced that 5-star former Willis receiver Jermaine Bishop is going to be doing some work at corner this summer. Importantly, Sarkisian has successfully converted corners before. He mentioned a few, like Adoree Jackson, while with the USC Trojans.
“Jermaine is a fantastic football player. He’s a young man who’s got an extremely high football IQ. The game comes naturally to him. I think it always has. He’s a guy that we played exclusively at wide receiver this spring. This summer, we are going to allow him to do some of the DB stuff, because I do think there is a future for him there. This is not out of the norm for me. I did this with John Ross at the University of Washington, did it with Adoree’ Jackson at USC. We did it at Alabama with Devonta Smith,” Sarkisian said.
“They don’t major in one side, but they can be an emergency on the other side. So we’re going to let him train some with the DBs this summer, learn the system, all the while still do his receiver work. But he’s that gifted. He’s that physically gifted and he’s got the mind that can withstand it. It’ll be a fun project as we continue to move forward on it.”
Bishop was a stud in Class 6A, Division II UIL football in the Lone Star State during his time with the Wildkats. He was named Defensive Newcomer of the Year as a freshman and had 10 interceptions. As a senior, he was particularly a menace, amassing nine TFL, four interceptions, three forced fumbles, and 12 pass breakups.

This is a pretty major development. It was buried because of some pretty cheap shots about a former division rival.
What did Steve Sarkisian say about Texas Tech?
“There’s a team in our state in another conference with a schedule that I would argue if I played with our twos and threes, we could go undefeated, and they’ll probably make the CFP this year,” Sark said about the Red Raiders at the same Houston event for… reasons.
Sarkisian is seemingly setting up the narrative that College Football is inherently unfair for Texas. He should check other programs’ payrolls compared to the Longhorns’, though.
The sport is unfair, but not in the way Sark is willing to acknowledge publicly.
