It was a worrisome development at Ohio State when offensive coordinator and wide receivers coach Brian Hartline was lured away to be the head coach of USF. It left a big recruiting and coaching void that had been a bit part of the program for years.
Recruiting and retaining coaching talent has rarely been an issue in Columbus, but it’s a hire head coach Ryan Day needed to get right. Whether or not the hiring of former LSU wide receivers coach Cortez Hankton was the answer or not will be a story best reviewed after all the chapters are done, but that sure seems like a pretty good move so far, based on reviews coming out of spring ball.

Speaking of Hankton and the spring, the new addition to the coaching staff was apparently mic’d up during one of the spring sessions in the ‘Shoe, and the Ohio State football creative staff just shared some of it this week.
If the video is any indication, Hankton appears to be very hands-on, has a ton of energy, and knows his stuff. It’s at least a good way to get an idea of the personality Hankton brings to the program.
Ohio State has a bevvy of talent at wide receiver once again, but the proof will be in the pudding to see if Hankton can have a similar impact on the group as Hartline did. We’re banking on it being a pretty good hire.
