Jalen Williams believes his presence could have changed the outcome of the Western Conference Finals, though he was careful not to dwell on hypothetical scenarios after Oklahoma City’s elimination.
The Thunder forward missed most of the series due to injury but expressed confidence that he would have made a meaningful impact had he been available.
“I don’t do the hypothetical thing too much because it does not solve anything that’s going on right now,” Williams said. “But to humor your question, obviously I think I could have made an impact. I think we could have won if I played.”
Williams pointed to the fact that Oklahoma City pushed San Antonio to seven games despite his absence, arguing that his return likely would have helped rather than hurt the team’s chances.
“We went to seven with them without me playing. I don’t think I make us worse. That’s really my answer to that.”
At the same time, Williams credited the Spurs for taking advantage of the opportunity in front of them and said the Thunder will have to wait for another chance to face San Antonio.
“It’s also hats off to (San Antonio). What do you want them to do about me being hurt? … We’ll just have to wait until we meet again at some point.”
Meanwhile, fellow Thunder guard Cason Wallace addressed his future after finishing a breakout season that earned him All-Defensive Second Team honors.
Although he is eligible for a rookie-scale extension, Wallace said contract talks are not currently his focus.
“Love the Thunder. But you know I’m more focused on getting better this summer and being able to go out there and compete next season,” Wallace said.
Instead, the former lottery pick is concentrating on improving his game and helping Oklahoma City return stronger next season after its playoff disappointment.
