Shai Gilgeous-Alexander did not shy away from describing the Thunder’s season as a disappointment after Oklahoma City’s bid for a second consecutive NBA championship ended in the Western Conference Finals.
Despite another outstanding year both individually and as a team, the league MVP said the campaign ultimately fell short because the Thunder were unable to achieve their ultimate objective.
“I failed at my goal,” Gilgeous-Alexander said. “I didn’t achieve what I wanted to achieve.”
Rather than dwelling on the result, however, the player emphasized that setbacks often provide the greatest opportunities for growth and self-improvement.
“But I learn the most about myself and make the greatest amount of increases in my career when I fail and don’t get what I want. I look at this no different.”
The Thunder star added that he plans to use the disappointment as motivation moving forward, studying the reasons behind the team’s elimination in an effort to come back stronger next season.
“I didn’t get where I wanted to go this season. There’s a reason for that. Now I have to look at that reason and try to make sure it never happens again.”
Gilgeous-Alexander has played 8 seasons for the Thunder and Clippers. He has averaged 25.3 points, 5.3 assists and 4.7 rebounds in 530 regular-season games.
He was selected to play in 3 All-Star games. He has won 2 MVP award, 1 Finals MVP award and 1 NBA
