Brittney Griner has a resume that many WNBA players can only dream of having. On Saturday, the Connecticut Sun center reached another impressive milestone that cemented her legacy as one of the league’s all-time greats.
With a turnaround shot in the second quarter of the Sun-Sparks game, Griner became just the 18th player in WNBA history to reach 6,000 career points.

Griner went on to score seven more points in the second quarter, bumping her career total to 6,008 points. This puts her in solo 16th place ahead of Seimone Augustus and Lauren Jackson, who both had 6,005 points in their respective careers.
This historic milestone, however, was dampened by an incident that forced her to exit the Saturday night game early. Before halftime, Griner sustained an eye injury that led to her being ruled out for the rest of the matchup.
The 10-time WNBA All-Star is in the twilight of her career, but she has an opportunity to achieve more scoring feats before all is said and done. The two players directly in front of her on the all-time scoring list, Jewell Loyd and Breanna Stewart, are still thriving on offense for the Las Vegas Aces and the New York Liberty, respectively.
Loyd and Stewart will continue to add to their scoring totals, but Brittney Griner will certainly be in hot pursuit as she carries on with her storied WNBA career.

What Other Milestone Did Brittney Griner Achieve Inside Mohegan Sun Arena?
Brittney Griner’s accomplishment has drawn praise from analysts on social media, and one writer has gone on to point out an interesting nugget about the venue where she achieved this feat.
Jack Church, a writer for Her Hoop Stats, posted this tweet after Griner crossed 6,000 points on Saturday.
“FUN FACT: Griner cleared 3,000 college points in this building on February 18, 2013 when her No. 1 Baylor Bears beat No. 3 UConn here. Now, she has another career milestone in Hartford.”
This is expected to be the last season that Griner will don the Connecticut Sun jersey, as the team is set to relocate to Texas and become rebranded as the Houston Comets. Griner, of course, is a Houston native who can end her career with a homecoming in H-Town next year.
