Egor Kornev Fires Off 21.12 in 50 Free at Russian Championships; Goes Sixth All-Time

Egor Kornev fired off a 21.12 effort in the 50 free to go sixth in the all-time rankings at the Russian Championships in Kazan.

Kornev cut 0.15 from the national record of 21.27 that had stood to Vladimir Morozov since 2019 in the semis on Monday and will return for the final on Tuesday.

He sliced a 0.31 chunk off his PB of 21.43 from last year’s national championships with Cam McEvoy the only man quicker this year with his 20.88 world record at the China Open in March.

Kornev is now the sixth-fastest man in history with his 21.12 blast the 10th swiftest performance.

As a result, athletes from those countries will have to meet strict criteria to be awarded Neutral Individual Athlete status for the showcase in Paris in July and August.
