Chris Finch believes Anthony Edwards is making a real jump in how he chooses his shots, and the Timberwolves coach said the change has been a major reason for Minnesota’s progress.

“I think he’s done a phenomenal job of cleaning up his shot selection offensively,” Finch said on KFAN, via HoopsHype. “He takes far more efficient and better shots in the flow.”

In the 2025-26 regular season, Edwards averaged 28.8 points, shot 48.9% from the field and 39.9% from three-point range, while producing 3.7 assists and 5.0 rebounds in 61 games.

That efficiency has not fully carried over to the playoffs, where Edwards has still carried the offense but on tougher shooting splits. Through 10 postseason games, he averaged 21.6 points, 5.7 rebounds and 2.7 assists while shooting 42.8% from the field and 31.7% from deep.

Finch said the improvement is not just about shot volume, but about the type of looks Edwards is creating within the offense. “One of his weaknesses was he just didn’t take a lot of really good shots and he would miss,” Finch said. “He was a volume shooter and didn’t make them all the time.”

The coach also praised Edwards on the other end, where the 24-year-old guard continues to shape Minnesota’s identity with length, timing and pursuit. “Defensively, he’s just a headache,” Finch said. “His size, his length, his timing, his presence, he comes everywhere early, and he makes plays defensively that we’ve never seen.”

That defensive impact shows up in Edwards’ playoff line as well. He averaged 0.5 steals and 0.7 blocks per game in the postseason, a sign that he is influencing possessions even when his shot is not falling as often.

Finch went even further when describing the ground Edwards can cover. “The amount of ground that he’s able to cover, he really destroys the mid-range,” he said, a nod to how Edwards can erase space on both drives and recoveries.
