Alabama Hires Ryan Purdy as Assistant Coach

Alabama on Tuesday announced the addition of Ryan Purdy to the swimming and diving coaching staff.

Purdy will serve as an assistant coach, replacing Michael White, who last week was hired by Arizona State.

Prudy arrives on the staff of head coach Margo Geer after two years at Army. He was a standout swimmer at Arizona, graduating in 2024.

“I want to sincerely thank Margo and the entire Alabama swim and dive family for this opportunity,” Purdy said in a team press release. “I’m incredibly grateful and honored to join such an elite program. Alabama has such a rich history in swimming and diving and I can’t wait to help take it to an even higher level. Roll Tide!”

Purdy was part of the Wildcats’ program-record 200 medley relay. A team captain in 2023-24, he was a Pac-12 finalist in the 100 breast and both medley relays. He spent two seasons on staff for Brandt Nigro at Army, helping the Black Knights men’s team win the Patriot League title in 2025, its first league title in 24 years. Army was the runner-up last year, making history with All-American finishes and NCAA qualifiers at the men’s and women’s meets.

“What stood out most about Ryan was the genuine way he builds relationships,” Geer said. “He has great knowledge of the sport and is someone our student-athletes will trust and want to be around every day. Just as importantly, he is a great fit for our staff. We are thrilled to welcome him to Alabama and excited for the impact he will have on our program.”
