The Toronto Maple Leafs hired Jim Hiller on Wednesday, June 17 as the 41st coach in franchise history.

Hiller, 57, was fired by the Los Angeles Kings this past season but is familiar with the Maple Leafs organization, serving as an assistant coach from 2015-19, making the playoffs three times in that four-year span.

Hiller, who went on to spend three years as New York Islanders assistant coach, joined the Kings organization in 2022 as an assistant. He was named interim coach in February 2024 after the firing of Todd McLellan and was retained the following season as head coach but was fired during the 2025-26 season.

He had a 93-58-24 record in the regular season as Kings coach. The Kings lost to the Edmonton Oilers in the first round in both of this trips to the playoffs.
