Christian Rodriguez ended his two-fight losing skid in emphatic fashion at UFC Fight Night 279 with a brutal finish of Hyder Amil.
Rodriguez (13-4 MMA, 6-4 UFC) looked sharp from the opening bell of Saturday’s featherweight bout at Meta APEX in Las Vegas. He landed a vicious right head kick that floored Amil (11-3 MMA, 3-3 UFC) and almost got the stoppage, but then he latched onto a guillotine and put his foe out cold at the 3:43 mark of Round 1.

Both Rodriguez and Amil came into the matchup in a must-win situation with back-to-back losses. Only one could prevail and avoid dropping three straight, and it was Rodriguez who emerged from that situation as someone looking to have promise at 145 pounds.
Rodriguez dedicated the victory to his late coach Duke Roufus, but is looking to a bright future now that he’s moved to Las Vegas and is training at Xtreme Couture under Eric Nicksick.
“I lost my coach in October and it was really hard for me,” Rodriguez said in his post-fight interview with Daniel Cormier. “Coming off two losses and showing who I am, it means the world to me.”
