Brewers Reacts Survey Results: MLB Draft priorities

Welcome to SB Nation Reacts, a survey of fans across the MLB. Throughout the year we ask questions of the most plugged-in Brewers fans and fans across the country. Sign up here to participate in the weekly emailed surveys.

In this week’s Reacts survey, we asked fans which position area they’d like to see the Brewers prioritize in this year’s draft, which is less than three weeks away. The results showed a clear winner:

Pitching, which has been a cornerstone of Milwaukee’s philosophy during the success of the past eight-ish years (alongside defense), perhaps unsurprisingly garnered nearly half the vote, coming in at 44%. Catcher came in second at 25%, followed by left side of the infield (15%), right side of the infield (4%), and outfield (2%).

While a good chunk of Milwaukee’s current pitching staff came from outside the organization, both Jacob Misiorowski and Brandon Woodruff are former draft picks.

Woodruff was an 11th-round find back in 2014 out of Mississippi State, and while he’s dealt with injury troubles over the last several years, he’s been great when healthy, and his veteran presence is arguably even more valuable than his play on the field.

Misiorowski went in the second round of the 2022 draft out of Crowder Junior College in Missouri (the same school Milwaukee drafted Aaron Ashby in the fourth round in 2018). He’s turned into an ace in barely a full season in the majors, while Ashby has become one of the more reliable bullpen arms.

If Milwaukee opts to go the pitching route, pitching options in their range include Brody Bumila (Bishop Feehan High School), Carson Bolemon (Southside Christian High School), Tegan Kuhns (Tennessee), Cole Carlon (Arizona State), Cade Townsend (Ole Miss), Hunter Dietz (Arkansas), Logan Reddemann (UCLA), and Mason Edwards (USC).

For what it’s worth, ESPN projects the Brewers to take third baseman Ace Reece (Mississippi State), MLB.com has Milwaukee taking Dietz, The Athletic has the Crew selecting catcher/outfielder Daniel Jackson (Georgia), FanSided has the Brewers taking Bolemon, and Bleacher Report has them taking outfielder Sawyer Strosnider (TCU).

With the MLB Draft just a few weeks away, be sure to check out the FanDuel Sportsbook if you think you have what it takes to predict the Brewers’ selection.
