The New Orleans Pelicans are adding another undrafted prospect after agreeing to an Exhibit 10 contract with former Kansas guard Melvin Council Jr.

Council took an unconventional path to the professional ranks, beginning his career in junior college before playing at Wagner, St. Bonaventure, and Kansas.

During his lone season with the Jayhawks, the 6-foot-3 guard averaged 12.7 points, 5.1 assists, 5.0 rebounds, and 1.0 steal in 35 starts, establishing himself as one of the team’s most versatile contributors.

Known for his athleticism, toughness, and competitive style, Council impressed scouts with his all-around game, though improving his outside shooting remains a key area for development after posting a 29.1 percent mark from three over his final three collegiate seasons.

The Exhibit 10 agreement gives Council an opportunity to compete for a two-way contract during training camp or continue his development with the Birmingham Squadron, the Pelicans’ G League affiliate.

If he is waived before the regular season and spends at least 60 days with the Squadron, he will also be eligible for the Exhibit 10 bonus.
