NASCAR previously discussed putting a race on the Golden Gate Bridge

NASCAR has been very bold with its schedules over the last five to six years. Over that time, NASCAR has raced the Clash in Los Angeles while putting the best drivers in the world on a street course in Chicago. However, the sport was also considered a site in California that would have been the biggest event yet.

NASCAR considered the idea of running a race on the Golden Gate Bridge, as reported by Sports Business Journal’s Tom Friend. NASCAR chief operating officer Ben Kennedy said the sport talked about the idea, but it couldn’t come up with a course layout that made sense.

The Golden Gate Bridge is heavy for traffic, and NASCAR also knew that closing the road would have a major impact on travel. NASCAR has been very vocal about expanding its reach in the United States of America, and while the Golden Gate Bridge won’t happen, it would have been a spectacular event.
