The Indianapolis Colts fans have spoken again, and with team training camp rapidly approaching in late July (where did the month of June exactly go?), we asked which positional battle they were most looking forward to watching come the last hurrah at Grand Park:
36% of Colts fans were interested in watching the primary backup quarterback (i.e., QB2 battle) unfold between rising 4th-year quarterback Anthony Richardson and 2nd-year quarterback Riley Leonard.

While both players have so far been splitting first-team reps in starting quarterback Daniel Jones’s ongoing absence through organized team activities and veteran mandatory minicamp earlier this month, it’s expected that one of Richardson or Leonard will eventually separate himself from the other during team training camp and preseason–if Richardson remains here following an offseason trade request.
It may matter more for the Colts this year than in years past, because not only is Jones unlikely to be fully 100% less than a year removed from a season-ending torn Achilles suffered in Week 14 (*albeit medically cleared), but he hasn’t exactly been an NFL iron man either–even dating back to his earlier career with the New York Giants.
That being said, the Colts backup quarterback situation even came up last year, with Richardson on injured reserve himself, and grizzled 44-year-old veteran Philip Rivers unretiring after five seasons to help try to save the day–with Leonard ultimately handling the regular season finale after three Rivers’ starts.
