4-star Ohio native cornerback chooses Michigan over Ohio State

You win some, you lose some when it comes to high-profile recruiting in big-time college football. On a day when Ohio State got a huge commitment from five-star wide receiver Jett Harrison, who just so happens to be the younger brother of Marvin Harrison Jr., there was also a significant loss to Michigan in another recruiting battle.

Four-star cornerback Mondanna Torbert Jr. announced his commitment to That Team Up North on Monday, shunning the in-state Buckeyes in favor of going north of the border. It wasn’t much of a surprise because Torbert has been a Michigan lean as of late, but losing a guy from the state of Ohio (Cincinnati Princeton) is never great news, especially when they go on to play for the arch-rival Wolverines. In addition to that, OSU seemed to be in great shape after his official visit to Columbus in mid June.

That clearly changed once the Michigan staff was able to get him up in Ann Arbor the following weekend. According to the 247Sports Composite rankings, Torbert is ranked as the No. 13 cornerback, 105th overall recruit, and fifth-best prospect in Ohio.
