As the Texas Longhorns have surged on the recruiting trail during the summer official visit season, the 2027 class has filled up with defensive backs, but that trend reversed on Thursday when Manvel defensive back Greedy James flipped to the LSU Tigers.
“Their pitch is that I can be a great cover guy, especially as a corner, and get developed by somebody like Corey Raymond with a platform like no other,” James told 247Sports. “It’s been great, and with my ties to Louisiana, it’s big. They’ve really picked it up.”

The 6’0, 175-pounder originally committed to Texas early last December as the third member of the 2027 recruiting class after earning an offer from the Horns at a June summer camp. But holding on to early pledges is difficult, and head coach Steve Sarkisian and his staff encouraged James to continue considering his options, a group of schools that ultimately included LSU and Notre Dame.
With the Tigers landing the pledge from James, the Longhorns lose a commitment from a consensus f0ur-star prospect ranked as the No. 282 player nationally and the No. 24 safety, according to the 247Sports Composite rankings.
Texas is now back to 21 pledges in the current cycle in a class that ranks No. 6 nationally.
