Marcus Spears Jr. enters Texas with one of the most impressive résumés in high school basketball after establishing himself as one of the nation’s premier young players.
Playing for Dynamic Prep in Texas, the 6-foot-10 power forward dominated this spring on the Nike EYBL circuit, averaging 20.9 points and 8.7 rebounds per game.
Those numbers placed him among the top 10 players nationally in both scoring and rebounding.
Spears also enjoyed success on the international stage. Representing Team USA at the 2025 FIBA U16 Men’s AmeriCup, he helped lead the Americans to a gold medal while averaging a team-best 14.0 points along with 6.5 rebounds per game.
According to his father, one of the biggest reasons for choosing Texas was new head coach Sean Miller’s proven ability to develop elite NBA talent.
Miller previously coached future NBA stars such as Deandre Ayton and Aaron Gordon before they reached the professional level.
Because Spears turned 17 in April, he will still need to spend at least two seasons in college before becoming eligible for the NBA Draft.
He is expected to suit up for Texas during both the 2026-27 and 2027-28 seasons.
His statistical production has already placed him in exclusive company.
According to Cerebro, only three players since 2022, Cooper Flagg, Cameron Boozer, and Tyran Stokes, have matched Spears’ averages of at least 20 points, 8.5 rebounds, and one block across three consecutive Nike EYBL sessions, highlighting just how rare his all-around impact has been at the grassroots level.
