Kelsey Mitchell not only powered the Indiana Fever to a 92-89 win against the Phoenix Mercury on Thursday, but she also made franchise history in the process.
Mitchell, who signed a one-year supermax contract worth $1.4 million with the Fever in the offseason, exploded for 29 points in the win. She went 10-of-22 from the field, while also recording two rebounds, eight assists, three steals and one block.

The 30-year-old WNBA veteran also delivered one of the biggest shots of the game. With 10 seconds remaining in the fourth quarter, she scored a tough layup to give the Fever a 90-89 lead.
With her performance, Mitchell climbed a Fever statistical leaderboard. She entered the game with 236 career steals with Indiana, needing just three to surpass Ebony Hoffman for the fifth-most in team history.
Sure enough, Mitchell got exactly what she needed to crack the top five. The Fever celebrated her achievement after the game with a post on social media.

“yeah, Kelz,” the Fever wrote in the caption of their post. “Kelsey Mitchell is now 5th all-time in franchise history in steals.”
Mitchell has been making plenty of history with the Fever this season. Just over a month ago, she climbed to third on the franchise’s all-time assists list, surpassing Erica Wheeler.
Furthermore, she became just the second player in Fever history to score 5,000 points for the team, joining Tamika Catchings.
With the way Mitchell is playing, it wouldn’t be surprising to see her reach more milestones with Indiana this season.
